The MA part should be easy to figure out after watching Doug's video above. Check out the video linked below for a consolidation PCF.

I have verified that my pcf's are the same as the ones in your video for the 10 and 40 MA's. I have created a separate chart template with the 10 and 40 day MA's, but the returns I'm getting show virtually no crossovers, some appear to go in the wrong direction, or just run parallel. I have also tried both simple and exponential settings on the MA's with no results.
Got to be something I'm doing wrong, please help me out.
I would sure appreciate your help.

Are you calculating the PCFs after every download?

Click on DATABANK|PERSONAL CRITERIA FORMULAS

Be sure you are calculating against ALL ITEMS IN THE SYSTEM and calculate them.

Also be sure you are looking at a DAILY chart.

I just did a new download and refreshed the pcf's, that helped! However, still something strange... my charts show the 40 day crossing the 10 day, rather than the other way around. Funny thing, too, is that while the above is true, the actual crossovers I'm seeing are going in the expected direction.
I must still be missing something. Sorry to bother you with this.
Thanks much..

Ah...

So your 40 seems "faster" than the 10

I bet the 10 is not a MA of price but a MA of the 40.

click the EDIT button on your chart. You will likely see PRICE then indented the 40 MA then (indented under the 40) the 10. The 10 is a child of the 40 not price.

Click the trashcan by the 10.

Click the PLUS (addition) symbol next to PRICE and add the 10 moving average...

It should now appear indented under PRICE but FLUSH LEFT with the 40.

Did I guess right?

Right on!..........
Sure is great to get help on frustrating situations like this. I've had Telechart for several years now but only now have I been able to say it finally has really arrived to be so user friendly, thanks to the introduction of this new website service. Thank you, folks for the help (and the Wordens for providing it).

Doug - I tried to recreate your same example but am receiving charts with crossovers more than 6 months old. Any ideas? Also are you using the SMA or EMA?
thanks

My search as of close on 4/13 captured 250 stocks. Take a look at the following tickers that were generated: ADPI, FLWS and GRU.

SFTrader:

Are your PCF's updated for All Items in System through last night's market close?

I used simple moving averages in the video.

Also, make sure you have two moving averages of price...in other words, make sure your second moving average is also plotted on price, rather than as a monving average of the first moving average (a common mistake).

I'll go test this out and let you know what I come up with.

I just ran a test on the All Stocks watchlist, based on closing prices from April 13, and I got 250 crossups, and 158 crossdowns that have occurred sometime within the past 3 days.

The three tickers you mentioned are all in the scan because a crossup occurred within the past three days.

Doug - I ran the scan again as of the 4/19/05 close and came up with 293 stocks. However there are many that came up that have not crossed over in the past 3 days.
AATK - no cross over
ABIX - crossed down in late March
ADPI - last crossed up in Dec 04

Any idea as to what I am doing wrong. Also my range selector look different that the one in your video. Am I using an older version?

Have you checked the items I mentioned in my post of April 14th at 8:45AM? In particular, when you click the edit button to edit your template, you need to confirm that both moving averages are indented under price, and the the second moving average is not indented under the first one.

Let me know what you find out.

Doug:

I am trying to get a scan to do MA cross-overs in weekly charts. The example (video) above is for daily closing prices, which is really good. Can you help me out in this regard?

Thanks!

Doug:

I have been happy to have in place some nice MA crossovers for the 10/40 and 50/200 MAs. What is the simplest way that I can create a PCF to locate stocks crossing a MA, for example: crossing up over a 50MA and/or crossing down under a 50MA? If I knew the basic formula, I know then I could create similar ones for any other MAs too, right?

Thanks for all your help.

Hi it's me again...
I've got good xover scans for 10MA up thru 40MA, 10MA down thru 40MA (and also same for 50/200MAs), and also 30MA up thru 50MA, but, using the same criteria and settings I'm not getting any stks for the 30MA DOWN thru 50MA. My settings for the 30MA vs 50MA are: Value = Min to .9996, using formula: (AVGC30 / AVGC50) * 100, and settings for 30MA vs 50MA - 3 Days ago are: Value 100.05 to Max, using formula: (AVGC30.3 / AVGC50.3) * 100. The other two "down" formulas are similar and they work just fine. What do you think I'm doing wrong? I've compared these and the chart setups til I'm blue in the face and can't seem to get this one right? Sure look forward to some of your always expert help.

Yes, they are simple. My problem seems to be that my pcf's for this scan are not returning any results (all stocks). The other "down" scans are doing very well, and also the "up" for the 30/50MA. What do you think of my formulas and Values? Are they OK?

Testing MSFT for the 30MA vs 50MA I get: (25.49/25.24)*100. For the 30MA vs 50MA - 3 Days ago: (25.45/25.17)*100.

What do you think? Funny thing is that I have had this in place for about two weeks now, and I have yet to return any results for the scan. Maybe you could enter one to test and let me know what you get?

...how are setting the range selectors for these?

Remove both from the EasyScan and add them back again. Limit one, check the count, then limit the other... can you see how it is getting to zero?

They are testing correctly.

I did an EasyScan on ALL STOCKS with both conditions (today above 100, 3-days ago below) and found 417 stocks. There must be something funky going on in your EasyScan, the PCFs seem accurate.

I just tried what you suggested and got a few results that met the criteria (I used all stks, optionable). For some reason, and I don't know why, the settings on my pcf's had somehow reset themselves , so I set them back as I reentered them to how they should have been . That WAS funky.

Now that I'm finally getting somewhere with this, I can tweak the scan to get even more, I'm sure.
Thanks so much for your assistance.

The 10 day MA and the 40 day MA do not appear on my charts. How do I get them on the chart?

Thanks

I'm obviously not understanding the question correctly. The only place I can think of to possibly add anything MA related to the "charts" not related to the Chart Templates would be the Data Bar:

Customize the Data Bar to display selected data points

If that isn't it, maybe it is just a matter of using different terminology. The following video uses the normally accepted terms for the various parts of the TeleChart screen:

Overview of the TeleChart main screen - WatchList, Notes and Chart windows
