Hi Bruce!

I want to imort a symbol from excel spreadsheet to a personal watch list.  Can you tell me what format I need to have the symbol in?  Better yet if you can link me to any discussions on this I can figure it out that way.  Thanks so much!

You should be able to just highlight the symbols in the Excel spreadsheet, right-click on them, select copy and then right-click on the symbols in a Personal WatchList and select Paste (or use ctrl-v).

You can import a list of symbols which are already available in TC2000 to create a Personal WatchList, but you cannot import symbols which are not already available in TC2000. It is not possible to import data.

I think I found the answer and that is to do it in version 7?  If this is in fact the solution and it cannot be done in version 12, it would be a great feature to add!

It is not possible to import or plot external data into any version of TC2000.

StockFinder doesn't actually have a way to import external data, but it does have the ability to Plot external CSV data contained in a text file.

Market Data Reader Overview
RealCode File Reader Overview

The blogs containing the examples no longer exist. That said, the Minutes Data is incomplete topic contains both an example file and a RealCode Indicator which can display its contents in StockFinder.

Thank you for your suggestion. It has been assigned case number 9923.

Hi Bruce,

Can you clarify this for me (along the same lines of the above OP) please.

I have a list of symbols in excel. Can I copy & paste them into a new Watch List in TC2000?

I read an earlier post where you said to put them into Notepad and transfer them from there, but that was for different software.

Thanks

You should be able to copy and paste a list of symbols from Excel into TC2000 version 12.3.

Bruce,

I watched that video before I posted, and just watched it again. No mention of transfering from excel on there. Any other link?

Thanks

The video is just general instructions on how to copy and paste symbols into WatchLists. It does not specifically demonstrate doing so from excel, but it works the same way.

Thanks Bruce,

but I need to clarify what I want to do. I have a list of 30 symbols in an excel file, and I want to copy and paste at one time the entire list so I don't have to enter them one at a tme.

If this is possible, I don't see the next step.

Thanks again

The steps are exactly the same as any other type of symbol copy and paste. It doesn't matter if you are copying from a TC2000 WatchList, a text file or an Excel file.

- Highlight the symbols.
- Right-click on the highlighted section and select Copy.
- Right-click on a symbol in a Personal WatchList in TC2000 and select Paste.
- Select OK.

Hey Bruce,

I needed to import  a ton of symbols into a new watch list and knew there must be a way to load them in altogether. So I did a quick search and this post series popped up. Even though I'm resurrecting an old thread I had to make the following comments:

1. Your clear explanation made it simple and quick to populate my list.

2. Your patience working with us users out here is truly remarkable!

Thanks,

Greg

Hi,

I use Version 17 of TC 2000 and would like to import a list of symbols from Excell. I tried some of the instructions in this thread but they do not seem to work. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

Perhaps it would be helpful if you posted the steps you went through, and what seemed to work or not work.

I tried the steps outlined such as;

1. Selecting the range from excell file and copying

2. Then pasting on to the add new symbols field

The procedure seems to work except that it pastes only one symbol and not he entire range of symbols selected and copied.

Thanks.

Gotcha.

The Add New Symbol field paste will only add one symbol, as you noticed.

But try placing your cursor over the watchlist itself, and then pasting. You don't need to go thru the Add New Symbol cell.

Bon Chance

I do this once a week with the IBD lists.  I copy just the column of symbols, and past them into a text file and save it to a folder. Below is how the symbols are formatted.  I then create a New Watch List.  Right clicking in the blank watch list opens a dialog menu.  Select Import Symbols from File with a left click, browse to the text file you just saved select it and the symbols will import to the watch list.

FWIW another technique for copying over IBD lists

  1. Export IBD list to Excel (option is usually at bottom of list)
  2. This automatically opens an instance of Excel, with the stock symbols in Column A
  3. Copy column with list of symbols
  4. Paste into TC2000 watch list
  5. Close Excel with out saving
