Over the past year or so, I have been doing some R&D on optionsdata, specifically weekly options, with front end expiration and next week's expiration.

I have used conventional Put/Call ratios before to see if we could retract some usefull information. Therefore I developed an application that in realtime scans, with some conditions, for particluar trades entering the market.

an example:

On Monday 8/17 we suddenly saw a huge increase in large trades of SPY put buying. I say "buying", since the trades were at the ask or above the ask.

Well, we all know now what happened the end of that week. Several of these trades gained a multitude of 1000% in gains.

I have used this information to complement my trading decisions. At times it gives a good insight of were the really large bets are placed.

One more example

Apple options flow; all large option trades, at or above the ask for this weeks and next weeks expiration, as of 8/24 (the crash day)

Most of these huge profit.

programmed it myself, using a datafeed from TD ameritrade
