I must be doing something wrong.  I am using the PCF TSV18 > AVG(TSV18,18) AND TSV18.1 <= AVG(TSV18.1,18) to pinpoint the day when TSV 18 crosses above the TSV 18 day moving average.

When I try and use it, I get selections where TSV has crossed over days ago.  The easyscan using my PCF shows the PCF to be true, but when I test the PCF it shows "false"

What must I do to get a return showing stocks that have crossed over TODAY (or yesterday)???

I have been using Telechart for many more years than my profile shows, but this has me completely baffled.  TSV18 and the 18 day avg are both simple.  Help PLease!!  Mitch

I haven’t done these for awhile, but if my notes are correct, I believe they are, the Daily time frame TSV crossing its MA.

If you look at the syntax carefully you’ll understand the PCFs.  TSV is above its MA today and TSV was below its MA yesterday and therefore it must have crossed today.

Green is the TSV, Red its MA

The PCF with the SGN syntax returns both Up and Down

Simple TSV18 Crossing X UP Through its SMA18 Today

(TSV18.0) > AVG(TSV18.0,18) AND (TSV18.1) < AVG(TSV18.1,18)

Simple TSV18 Crossing X DN Through its SMA18 Today

(TSV18.0) < AVG(TSV18.0,18) AND (TSV18.1) > AVG(TSV18.1,18)

Simple TSV18 X UP/DN SMA18 (SGN Function) Today

SGN(TSV18.0 - AVG(TSV18.0,18)) - SGN(TSV18.1 - AVG(TSV18.1,18.1))

Exponential TSV18 Crossing X UP its EMA18 Today

XAVG(TSV1.0,18) > XAVG(TSV18.0,18) AND XAVG(TSV1.1,18) < XAVG(TSV18.1,18)

Exponential TSV18 Crossing X DN its EMA18 Today

XAVG(TSV1.0,18) < XAVG(TSV18.0,18) AND XAVG(TSV1.1,18) > XAVG(TSV18.1,18)

If both the TSV and Moving Average are Simple with Periods of 18, then you are using the correct formula. The formula definitely matches the Charts on my computer. Can you provide some example symbols where the results of the formula do not match your Charts?

Some thoughts are that the Moving Average is of something besides the TSV, that the Time Frame on your Charts is not Daily, that you are not scrolled all the way to the right edge of the Chart or that your Personal Criteria Formulas are not updated to the current date.

You might want to try using the formula as a Custom Percent True Indicator to verify that the spikes line up with the crossovers on the Chart.

I am still trying to find a solution to my TSV18 crossing over the TSV18 average, but am having no luck.  I have tried everything that Bruce suggests, but still no luck.  I even dropped a note to Don or Peter, but all I got was the canned response and no attempt at a solution.  Pretty obvious they could care less.  Here is what I wrote them (updated fro today:

Attn: Don or Peter.  I hate to bother the boss with small problems, but I have no where else to go.  I am looking for a PCF that will show me simple 18 day TSV crossing up thru simple 18 day TSV AVG.  I am using a formula supplied by training support ((TSV18.0) > AVG(TSV18.0,18) AND (TSV18.1) < AVG(TSV18.1,18))

When I put this formula in an easyscan, today I get 231 hits, yet they don't answer the question posed by the PCF.  Take SMN, it looks like the crossover occured 5 days ago.  When I edit the PCF against SMN, it shows failed (with some ridiculous values) yet it shows up in today's list as "crossing over".  These discrepancies go on and on --

What gives??  Can you have someone explain to me what is wrong with my expectations for the PCF, or, give me a better PCF that will accomplish what I am seeking, or, fix the program so it will show ONLY those items looked for in the PCF.

Thank you for your attention.  I have enjoyed your program for lo these many years now -- couldn't do without it.  Mitch (kcmitch)

Please guys, give this some serious thought.  I did real well years ago with this signal, but I lost it somewhere and I really need it back.   Thanks, kcmitch

kcmitch,
Since you mention that you have tried everything I suggest, does a Custom Percent True Indicator with your formula have spikes that line up with the TSV crossovers? Visually the cross should happen after the Bar right before the spike.

The formula given in your most recent post is just fine for identifying symbols where Simple TSV18 has crossed up through its own 18-Period Simple Moving Average and it works correctly on my computer. A more extensive list is provided in TSV18 crossing avg where you asked a similar question previously (I prefer the form given there slightly as it is shorter and includes the possibilty of an equality yesterday, but the probability of an equality is so low that it should probably not affect your results).

SMN has not returned True for the formula provided in your post since August 12, 2010.

It does not currently return True and an EasyScan using the Personal Criteria Formula as an EasyScan Condition does not contain SMN.

The 313 symbols contained in an EasyScan with the PCF as its only EasyScan Condition using All Items in System as the WatchList to Scan when updated through 08/25/2010 Market Close are:

AATI, ACC, ACL, ACLI, ACTU, ADPI, AEE, AEO, AIRT, ALIM, ALKS, ALOY, ALTR, AMLN, AMPH, AMWD, ANAD, ANCX, APKT, APOL, ARBA, ARE.C, AREX, ARMH, ARQL, ARTNA, ASB, ASX, AUTH, AVA, BAA, BEST, BHB, BMI, BOCH, BOOM, BOOT, BPK, BQI, BR, BRKL, BSI, BSRR, BTFG, BUSE, BWINB, BWLA, BYI, BZM, CAB, CAH, CAVM, CBC, CBKN, CBM, CCNE, CDE, CIA, CJJD, CMS, CMS.B, CNY, CPWM, CRWN, CRY, CSL, CSTR, CTO, CTV, CUTR, CVCY, CWTR, DAIO, DJGSP, DJUSHP, DKR, DKY, DMC, DTE, DXJ, EAT, ED.A, EDAP, EE, EGHT, EGOV, EIDO, EIG, EMD, EPAY, ETB, EVOL, EVY, EXK, FALC, FBSI, FBSS, FCLF, FCS, FFHS, FFI, FMFC, FPIC, FR.J, FSLR, FSP, FULT, FVX--X, FXCB, GAH, GAR, GBLI, GCO, GDV.A, GDV.D, GES, GFN, GGR, GGT.B, GIGM, GPRE, HAR, HCKT, HGIC, HSII, ICLK, IDX, IN, ININ, INOC, ISLE, ITC, ITMN, JFT, JWB, KGJI, KLIC, KONG, KOOL, KRC.E, KSWS, KTEC, KUTV, KV-A, LCRD, LOOP, LORL, LOW, LPX, LRAD, LSC, LYTS, MANH, MBG, MDR, MEAD, MEND, MERU, MES, MG326, MG341, MG514, MG757, MG833, MG834, MGF, MHE, MI, MIY, MPWR, MRK, MRT, MSEX, MSL, MUAB, MUAD, MUAE, MUSA, NARA, NAZ, NBTF, NETL, NHTB, NI, NIF, NIM, NMK.C, NMY, NNI, NNN, NQJ, NST, NTRI, NTZ, NUW, NWK, NXK, NYP--X, OB, OIA, OME, OPEN, OVTI, PAM, PAY, PAYX, PCS, PDFS, PDII, PDO, PFBI, PFCB, PFK, PG, PGN, PLX, PMI, PMM, PNF, PNFP, POR, PSE, PSEM, PSI, PT, PW, PWP, PXD, PYB, QADI, QNST, RAE, RAH, RAVN, RCD, REN, RGR, RHT, RMKR, ROST, RPX, RRC, RYL, SAFT, SAP, SCVL, SDTH, SENEB, SFG, SGB, SGMA, SGRP, SGZ, SHAW, SHW, SIFI, SIFY, SIGM, SIL, SMB, SMBL, SMIT, SOL, SOMX, SPRT, SSI, SSRI, SSYS, STRL, STRT, SURG, SWM, SYMM, SYPR, T2121, T2122, TCB, TDBK, TDN, TDX, TEG, TEO, THOR, TICK, TLAB, TNAV, TRCR, TRH, TRNO, TSFG, TSON, TSYS, TTEC, TZF, UBFO, ULTR, UNB, UNFI, UVE, VALU, VLCM, VLGEA, WEL, WFR, WINA, WMT, WTT, XSLV, XVG, YDNT, YGE, YMI & YORW.

A visual inspection of all 313 symbols indicates they all seem to meet the condition on the Chart as well.

Assuming your email was not sent on August 12th, my best guess at this point would be that your Personal Criteria Formulas are not updated or that the PCF or EasyScan has become corrupted somehow.

You can manually update your PCFs by selecting Update | Personal Criteria Formulas | Update All Criteria. You'll want to make sure Calculate For is set to All Items in System.

If your PCFs are up to date or if updating them does not resolve the issue, please try deleting your current PCF and EasyScan and try recreating both the PCF and EasyScan from scratch.

If the email was sent on August 12th, the possibilities mentioned in my previous post are almost certainly the cause as it would mean it is the Charted TSV that is not a current daily Simple TSV18 with an additional 18-Period Simple Moving Average applied.

Following your latest message: (1) I deleted every reference to TSV18 in my TC2000. (2) re-entered the PCF putting a space in front of ">" and "<=". (3) Created an EasyScan using "All items" and PCF. (4) Got exactly the results you showed -- WORKS PERFECTLY - who knows "why" or cares. (5) Thanks loads for your help and patience - Mitch
